Naomi & Her Handsome Devils

NHHD

Naomi & Her Handsome Devils are a 7 piece band striving for the sound of that swing era sweet spot. Naomi founded the Devils after working with some of the best bands on the swing dance/lindy hop scene, and as a top international lindy hopper herself she knew just what she wanted to hear on the dance floor and just who she wanted to play it. The Devils have decades of experience playing hot jazz as some of the top young talent in the Chicago and New York traditional jazz scenes, and Naomi hand picked her favorite musicians to come together and make music. Put it all together and you have a modern band with a vintage sound, swinging dance floors around the world.

DJ Robert Barbier

Barbier

Robert has DJed for years at many of the notable events in the Atlanta area. His goal as a DJ is to encourage people to dance and have fun by translating his exuberant and whimsical dance style into music selections. He enjoys the thrill, challenge, and honor of leading a group of dancers through a night of dancing and feeling the mood in the room as dancers reveal what they want to hear.

DJ Maggie Boling

Boling

Maggie is a native Charlestonian who got her first taste of lindy hop on the floors of Hot Jam Swings in Atlanta, GA. Although she has only been exposed to the world of Jazz and dance for a few years, she is head-over-heels, no turning back, full-speed ahead in love with this music of old. She finds abundant joy in sharing her musical discoveries with others and is quite ebullient to DJ at CHEX X!

DJ Marina Clements

Clements

Marina got bit by both the lindy and blues bug back in 2014 and has been infected ever since. While Marina loves classic swing, jazz, and blues, she can be heard spinning some Motown and contemporary R&B if you stay up late enough! When she isn’t DJing for the Charleston Swing Dance Association, Holy City Blues, or attending live music events, she stays busy with Physical Therapy school. Marina is honored to spin the tunes that get your gluteus maximus moving on the dance floor at this year's CHEX X.

DJ Stephen Duane

Duane

Stephen Duane loves Swing music and Swing dancing. He is a local Charleston resident and currently organizes, teaches, and DJ's for the Hot Jazz Dance Club. His favorite artists are Fats Waller, Slim Gaillard, Benny Goodman, and Clarence Williams. Stephen is super excited for CHEX X and can't wait to be a part of the action!

DJ Suzanne Ducker

Suzanne started out ballroom dancing in South Carolina in 2004 and continued with it through college, competing and teaching. After some nudging from a friend, she went swing dancing for the first time in 2014 and was completely addicted from the very first swing out! Soon after, she began traveling for lindy events. Suzanne started DJing in November of 2014 as DJ Suzy-Q, and hasn’t looked back since. Her sets are playful and sure to get you swinging out hard! Since she moved to the DC area, she’s been enjoying DJing at the Jam Cellar, the DC Balboa Club, and Back Room Blues. You may have caught one of her sets at CHEX 9, Holy City Blues, Lindy Focus, or DCLX. She can’t wait to be a part of CHEX X!

DJ Dave Fuerte

Fuerte

Charleston's native son, Dave Fuerte has been a DJ beast of the Southeast for years and is known for founding HCBX, the Holy City Blues Exchange.
"He's a great DJ." - random kid in the parking lot.

DJ Mimi Liu

Liu

As one of the newest transplants to the Southeast, Mimi is proud to currently represent Soda City! After being bit by the Lindy bug in 2010, swing, jazz, and blues have found permanent residences in her heart and she likes it that way! The soul of the dance comes from the music, so she likes to make sure what she plays inspires you to move, brings out the creativity in you, and gives you all sorts of feels. Mixing up oldies but goodies, remakes and contemporary covers, big bands, New Orleans brass bands, and tossing in anything else that swings, she'll make sure you're feeling all sorts of good by the end of her set!

DJ Alex Medlin

Medlin

As a student at the College of Charleston, Alex was introduced to the hard drugs of Lindy Hop and Blues on the streets of Charleston, SC. Alex is a Raleigh, NC local now. She loves to dance, listen to music, and create sets with a variety of authentic Blues styles that will get the room dancing. You may have caught one of her sets at GVLX, Summertime, Tobacco Road Blues, EBC, Holy City Blues, Statesboro Swings Out, Winter Blues, ORLX, Bring on the Blues, Knoxville Lindy Exchange, Richmond Lindy Exchange, CHEX, or Mo’ Better Blues. She is excited to be DJing and dancing with everyone at CHEX X this year.

DJ Andy Nguyen

Nguyen

Andy Nguyen is an avid Lindy Hopper currently living in Charlotte, NC. He is a fervent student of both the dance and the music. Andy also has a voracious appetite for jazz history, always looking to learn about the stories behind the bands or the songs. His recent favorite story is Paul Gonsalves’ legendary solo in Ellington’s "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue" at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival. While you won’t be seeing this 15-minute masterpiece in his sets (but you should check it out anyway!), Andy strives to get everyone on the dance floor and have a blissful time swinging.
